10 Important First Aid Tips That Will Save Your Day

Last Updated on December 20, 2019

If something happened and you ended up dealing with a fracture, try your best not to straighten the wound. Instead, keep the limb immobile and stabilized using padding and splint – Just make sure your limb is kept in the same position.

A fracture could be a simple sprain or dislocation, but it is still necessary to seek medical treatment to make sure the injury is not serious and to avoid any further injuries.

#6 – Eye injuries

Normally, we know that cleaning is the first thing to do to a wound. But when it comes to eye injuries, it is important to cover it and seek medical attention immediately.

You can try to clean your eye by yourself, of course, but there is a chance you will end up hurting yourself or causing permanent damage. The only exception is if there are chemicals in your eyes, this is when you need to flush them out of your eyes immediately before anything dangerous occurs.

#7 – Splinters

Splinters can easily infect open skin because they are filled with germs, which is why staying sterile when dealing with them is important.

If a splinter has fully embedded in your skin, then you should clean the area with an antiseptic. After sterilizing a needle with boiling water, dislodge the splinter and remove it with tweezers. In the end, use water and soap to wash the area.

#8 – Snake bites

You need to forget everything you have seen in the movies because they show an unrealistic way of getting rid of the snake’s venom, which is sucking out the poison.

In real life, the poison is already in the bloodstream of the victim, so sucking it out will not be helpful. The best way to deal with a snake bite is by relaxing because the faster your heart rate is, the quicker the poison will be spread. Seek medical treatment immediately and avoid any painkillers. Also, don’t run, just walk at a normal pace.

If possible, apply coconut oil to the wound to fight the bacteria and add a bandage to the area.

#9 – Jellyfish stings

I know, nothing can ruin a beautiful day at the beach like a jellyfish sting. We have all heard about the popular urban legend that you should urinate on the sting, but it can’t counteract the venom because it doesn’t have enough acid. Actually, hot water is just as effective, so it’s best to do with it without the unpleasant odor.

The best way to deal with a jellyfish sting is by rinsing the wound with hot water, vinegar or saltwater, which is perfect since you are on the beach already. You can also create a solution of water and baking soda to put on the wound or activated charcoal that can draw the venom out.

#10 – Scars

The thing we fear the most after getting hurt is having a nasty scar that could tattoo our bodies forever. Thankfully, there are a few things you can do that would definitely stop it from forming.

Baking soda contains disinfectant properties that prevent a scar from forming and even prevent infections. You can use it directly or mix it with water to create an antiseptic! So after adding the baking soda to the wound, make sure it is exposed to the open air.
