Many people keep ignoring this step or deciding to do it “later”, so we encourage you as you read this to go and do it immediately. Trust us, you will sleep happier at night knowing that your money is safe and sound.
Stop leaving your spare key in the mailbox
This is the most obvious place to leave your spare key. Basically, you are inviting all the thieves to come and have a party when you are not around.
There are many creative ways you can do to hide your key and not a single person would even guess it, but here is the best one: get a stone and an empty medicine bottle. Glue the stone on the cap of the bottle, put your key inside, and then push the bottle to the ground to the point only the stone will be visible.
Now even the world’s smartest thief wouldn’t be able to guess its place. Just make sure to remember where you buried the stone and how it looks like!
Make sure your yard is always neat
If a thief is willing to enter into someone’s property, they need to make sure no one is there and most preferably if the homeowners are on a trip. The one way to know that is by noticing if the house is being neglected or not, so don’t ever leave your house unless your yard is looking neat and freshly cleaned.
In case you travel, you can hire someone who would come regularly to check on the yard and clean it for you. It is better to spend a few dollars on a worker who would keep your property clean than lose everything you own in the blink of an eye.
Always put away package boxes
Leaving used packages visible to the criminals of your new expensive laptop or large TV will only show them which valuable items you own, making you their main target. So in order to secure your home is by breaking down the boxes as soon as you are done using them, and then throw them out immediately.
This hack will not only help to keep the thieves away, but it will prevent your curious neighbors from knowing what you have been up to and what have you been purchasing lately.
The Beware of Dog sign is necessary
Whether you have a dog or not, it is best to put up a Beware of Dog sign in your front window or in your fence just as a warning to keep the thieves away.
The strangers don’t really need to know if you truly own the dog that protect your property, but the sign will definitely make them think twice before they put a foot in your property. Believe it or not, all the thieves are scared of those signs and it is the first thing they look for before deciding to go inside a house.
Hide the hammers, ladders, and other tools away
Many people leave their tools and ladders outside their homes believing they would be safe there, but the truth is, nothing is safe as long as they are displayed for the public. Plus, you would be putting your home security in danger since the hammers, screwdrivers, axes, and chainsaws may help the thief process in their crime with tools that are not that friendly.
So every time you are done fixing something in your garden, it is a must to put all of your tools away, preferably inside your house, and lock the closet or even the room where you put them.
