7. Time to tackle the garage

While the garage is supposed to be the place where you park your car, we can almost bet that you have turned it into a storage unit for… well, everything. When sorting through your garage, ask yourself a simple question: “Do I need this?” and if the answer is yes, move on to question number two, “Should this be stored somewhere else?” If the answer is no, find out if the things you don’t need can be useful to someone else, sell them, donate them, and throw out the rest. To make sure that you don’t go back to your previous mess, set up a few storage shelves to organize your garage items, and hang your bikes vertically to save some space.

8. Let’s move on to the laundry room

By definition, the laundry room is a messy space. It’s the place where you leave your shoes after work, where your kids take off their sporting equipment, and where every piece of dirty clothing in the house ends up. Creating designated spaces for each family member in this room will make it easier to keep up with the organization. If this is the room you use to access your house, create a designated spot to drop your keys.

9. Do you have a home office?

Whether you work from home or keep a space in your house to prepare work presentations or help your kids with homework, making sure your office space is tidy is mandatory. If you keep your bills and other documents in this room, make sure to have a proper folder to keep them organized instead of creating a junk drawer. Get rid of anything you don’t need. Start with your desk and move to your surroundings. Keeping this space, clean, functional, and decluttered will improve your ability to concentrate.

10. Your hall closet

The hall closet is supposed to be a useful and functional storage unit in your home, so don’t treat it like a junk drawer 2.0, please! Empty this closet and separate the items you need from the ones you don’t use anymore. Then, arrange the things you decide to keep by displaying them neatly and efficiently.

11. And last but not least, the storage room

The storage room, like the name indicates, is the room where the mess happens. This is where people tend to throw everything they don’t want to sort out right away. The problem is that people do this for years, and by the time they try to get their storage rooms in order… it’s too late. Well, it’s not too late, but it’s going to be a lot harder. Anyway, Start by assessing the space you have, trying to understand how you can organize this room and make the most of it. Take out everything you don’t need anymore and keep only the things that will be useful to you in the future. Build some shelves to avoid pilling everything up, and label all of your boxes so you know what you are looking for whenever you need what’s inside.
