If you go to the supermarket, you will find endless halls filled with an immense variety of cleaning products suitable for an absurd number of purposes. But what if we told you that there is a miraculous multipurpose product that can help you achieve many of your cleaning goals? That’s right; we are talking about cornstarch! You can find this product at any food outlet in the country, which is pretty convenient. Plus, purchasing cornstarch instead of many different cleaning products will save you a lot of money and cabinet space as well. But what is cornstarch powder good for? That’s what we will explore in this article, so keep reading to find out about the many cornstarch uses when it comes to cleaning!

1. Remove grease stains from your clothes

If you have a grease stain on your favorite shirt, fear not! Cornstarch is here to solve your problem. Take a big scoop of cornstarch and apply it directly to the stain. Let it sit for 12 hours, more or less, and then wash your clothes as you usually do. Cornstarch can absorb grease, and it will effectively remove the stain.

2. Use it to polish silver

If you want your silverware to look spotless, there is no need to spend all of your money on overpriced products. Instead, you can mix 2-parts water and 1-part cornstarch until you get a pasty consistency, and use this mix to polish your silver. Cover your silverware using your homemade paste, and then use a soft cloth to scrub it properly. Rinse it off with cold water, and you are done. If you want to remove tarnish, this is a practical and inexpensive way to do so.

3. Use it for cleaning carpet spots

As we have mentioned before, you can rely on cornstarch stain removal properties to clean grease stains. It turns out you can also use it to remove those annoying carpet spots. All you have to do is sprinkle a fair amount of cornstarch all over your carpet; let it sit for about 20 minutes, then vacuum as you’d usually do. If there is a specifically stubborn stain, apply the cornstarch directly onto the spot and let it sit for a while. Then, use a brush to rub it off.

4. Clean your kid’s stuffed animals

If you want to clean your children’s stuffed animals but are too afraid to wash them in the washing machine, you can stuff them into a zip-top plastic bag and sprinkle them with cornstarch. Close the bag and shake it a little bit. Then let it sit for 5 minutes and shake it again. After getting the stuffed animals out of the bag, remove the remaining cornstarch using a soft brush.

5. Freshen up your rubber gloves

If your rubber gloves become damp, it will become harder to put them on and to remove them. You can prevent this issue simply by sprinkling a tiny amount of cornstarch inside your gloves. Also, cornstarch can absorb unpleasant odors, which can also be an issue with rubber gloves you have been using for a while.
