When you think about the dirtiest places in your home, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? The toilet? The trash can? The kitchen countertop? The floor? Well, although these places easily get dirty, some others are usually even dirtier and often go unnoticed. You see, for a place to be extremely dirty, it doesn’t need to be visibly dirty. The most harmful type of dirt is invisible –germs. These microscopic critters are all over the place and present a huge health risk. That’s why some of the surfaces on this list might surprise you. Keep this in mind the next time you grab your cleaning products to do your house chores. Here are some of the places in your home that are dirtier than you think!

1. Light Switches, Doorknobs, And Faucets

We decided to mention these three different surfaces at the same time because they are very similar. We touch all of them with our hands several times a day, and it’s not always after washing our hands. So it is normal that after a while an abysmal amount of germs have accumulated there, It is very important to clean these surfaces with disinfecting products from time to time. If they are contaminated, we easily end up cross-contaminating other surfaces of our house and potentially spread infections to other family members. Oh, and don’t forget to disinfect the refrigerator handles, stove knobs, and microwave handles!

2. Electronic Devices

As you may already know, our hands are like germ nests. Every item and surface we touch throughout our day end up contaminating our hands. And we are constantly touching our electronic devices. Think about it. You probably spend a good amount of hours per day with your smartphone in hands, typing on your computer keyboard, or even holding your remote control while zapping. So it is not surprising that all these items are disgustingly dirty. When you are disinfecting your home, also remember to disinfect your electronic devices. If you are not sure about which sanitizing products you can use to disinfect your most delicate electronics, do your research or ask a tech expert about it!

3. Kitchen Cabinet Handles

More handles. These surfaces get inevitably dirty. The biggest danger about kitchen cabinet handles is precisely the fact that they are in the kitchen. So, the chances are that you might touch these surfaces while handling and preparing raw food. If you decided to test your dirty cabinet handles in a lab, you would probably find bacteria commonly present in food, such as E. coli or Salmonella. If there is one thing you have learned today, we hope that is that all surfaces where several different hands touch must be disinfected as frequently as possible.

4. Ceiling Fans

If there is a place that you forget to clean in your house, this is the one, right? Be honest, when was the last time that you cleaned the dust off your ceiling fan blades? You probably don’t even remember it. These surfaces are incredibly difficult to reach and, therefore, hard to clean properly. It seems that every time someone attempts to clean ceiling fans, they just end up spreading the dirt and dust all over the room. If you often struggle with this task, here’s a cleaning hack that you’ll be glad to know. How to clean ceiling fans without making a mess: – Grab an old pillowcase or t-shirt. – Slide it over one fan blade at the time. – The dust and dirt will stay contained inside the pillowcase or t-shirt, and you can wash it safely after you finish cleaning all fan blades.
