What You Should Not Place In Your Dishwasher To Be Cleaned

Last Updated on October 28, 2019

We don’t know about you, but many people have cabinets reserved only for fancy crystal glass dinner plates and fine china dishes.

They put their hearts and minds into cleaning them by hand. If you have any fine china sets or crystal plates, don’t even think about cleaning them in the dishwasher.

The latter can chip your expensive fine china set’s paints because of the hot water used in the cleaning cycle of your dishwasher. Normally, fine china and crystal sets should be cleaned with mild dish soap, vinegar, and warm water. The use of a lint-free cloth is recommended.

#5 – Copper and aluminum cookware

1919 Cookware, American Kitchen Cookware, Calphalon Cookware, and Brooklyn Copper Cookware occupied the top ranks of the best cookware brands in the US. After spending a fortune on the best copper or aluminum cookware, you got to take good care of them.

Sometimes, when you are fed up with the cleaning that you have to perform every morning, you think of cleaning your copper cookware set in the dishwasher. Well, the bad news is that you cannot.

Your copper cookware, in particular, becomes discolored and dull. The same could be said about aluminum cookware sets that can oxidize and have their colors faded over time due to the exposure to heat. Even soaking such items in soapy water for a long time can spoil the aluminum pans and pots’ coating layer.

#6 – Cutting boards and wooden kitchenware

Wooden spoons, cutting boards, and other wooden kitchenware items should not be cleaned in a dishwasher. If you keep putting such items in your dishwasher, adding a detergent to the cleaning cycle, the wooden surfaces will be scratched.

In addition to the effects of the washing cycle, the drying cycle can contribute to the breaking, cracking, and warping of the wooden items.

For an effective kitchen deep cleaning, make sure you clean every item immediately after use. This includes the by-hand cleaning of your wooden kitchenware. To disinfect such items, use hot water and vinegar. The cuttings boards should be washed and dried by hand.

#7 – Cast iron items

Cast iron cooking and frying sets should be paid exceptional attention by cleaning them by hand. Exposing such items to dishwasher detergents constantly can break down the built-in layer that is supposed to protect your cast iron cookware.

This built-in layer is made of baked fat or oil into the cookware to serve as a preventing factor from food-sticking and rust.

If you have ever watched cooking shows like Master Chef, you would notice that professional chefs don’t wash the iron cast items they use at all. They merely wipe them down immediately after use. Still, you can clean your own cast iron set with the use of a mild abrasive like salt.
