1. I spilled nail polish on my carpet. What do I do now?
Breathe in, breathe out, and don’t panic! Take a paper towel and try to blot away the excess nail polish. During this step, you must avoid smearing the existing stain. If it happens to be the type of nail polish that dries quickly, take a butter knife and gently scrape the polish. After removing as much nail polish as possible, it’s time to start worrying about the remaining stain.
2. How to get nail polish out of the carpet with baking soda
Baking soda seems to be involved in almost any homemade cleaning products, and the truth is that it’s a very effective ingredient. All you need to do is sprinkle a fair amount of baking soda over the stained area until the stain is fully covered. Then, pour some ginger ale on top of it and allow it to soak for about 10 minutes or so. Take a soft cloth and scrub the area gently until you can completely remove the stain. Rinse off any remaining baking soda with water or using a wet cloth.
3. What about vinegar?
Vinegar is yet another popular household product that can be used for cleaning purposes. If you want to try it out, use plain vinegar to moist the stain, and then soak a paper towel with vinegar as well, and place it on top of the affected area. Wait for 10 minutes, more or less, and then gently scrub it away using a cotton cloth.
4. Is it possible to use nail polish remover on a carpet stain?
While the most seemingly logical thing to do would be to use nail polish remover as a carpet stain remover, you need to be extra careful if you want to achieve the expected results. First things first, nail polish remover can cause discoloration of your carpet or rug, so it’s better if you test it on a small area before going all in. Dampen a soft cloth using nail polish remover and try to scrub away the stain gently. This is usually more effective on light-colored carpets or white ones. However, you should always make sure that your nail polish remover does not contain acetone or any dye. Finally, this method works better on stains that haven’t dried yet, so being fast is the first step to achieving proper results.
